Craft balancing passion

FINNSUB is technically oriented diving company which has been revolutionising the dive industry since 1998. Started as a local distributor we were looking for the best quality products for technical diving. Thus we decided to create our "Advanced Technologies" division to manufacture dive lights and BC wing systems for backmount and sidemount diving with timeless design, exceptional function and intriguing roughness.

At FINNSUB, the quality is on the first place. Our dive lights and BC wings are produced in Czech Republic undergo rigorous quality control testing. All used components come from Europe, USA and Australia. Czech craftsmanship combined with the best local components create the exceptional look and invincible quality of diving products.

It's all in the hands. And brain.

Development of each product is a long term process. First idea needs to be discussed with colleagues, engineers, divers and other involved partners to create a project of the first prototype. We scribble many papers to make the design, keeping the low weight and small size. The prototype is long time tested in depth up to -150 metres of black water. After successful passing the tests we think about the colours, logos, final design, surface etc. Then the tools for serious production has to be made and the final, most difficult part of the launch is to create the story and marketing materials for the new products. Our hands and brains are enough busy in all phases of giving life to the new product.

The Story

1998

At the birth of our company in 1998 were two important Finnish brands, SUUNTO and URSUIT, which were and are the absolute top in the field of diving technology. Josef Vacek has founded the company and named it FINNSUB.

2005

Since 2005 FINNSUB has produced the full range of wing and harness systems for backmount diving that has been constantly renewed. They became immediately very popular among many sport and technical divers because of very high quality, precision manufacturing and unique design. First models produced were horseshoe shape wings, FLY 16H and FLY21H. Horseshoe shaped wings were commonly used and required for technical diving in that time.

2009

In 2009 we began producing the highest quality and most advanced LED diving lights in the world. Each FINN LIGHT features the latest lighting technology and a robust design all in a compact package. Today FINN LIGHT allows divers worldwide to explore dark environments with confidence. As the first diving company in the world we introduced the handheld light with same power as commonly used canister lights, enough burn time for using it as primary and so small dimensions that it was worth to use it instead of cable version. We called it "SHORT". Divers all over the world started to use it and enjoyed the freedom without the cord.

2011

The old american trend of donut shaped wing has been renewed in Europe so we decided to extend our wing range by donut shaped models FLY 17D, FLY 20D and FLY 25D. The donut shaped wings has slowly overtaken the marketshare of the horseshoe shaped wings.

2013

Our idea to bring the technical diving wings to the recreational divers was represented by the new model FLY 13D and it was our first model available also in the red colour.

2014

The exceptionality of our diving lights was confirmed by receiving reddot design award in 2014 for the model FL 3000 SHORT.

2014

In 2014 FLYside was born. When the sidemount diving becomes the new popular trend we want to bring the rig for sport divers having fun in open water as well as for explorers spending hours in super though conditions. There is no perfect sidemount for everyone and for every kind of environment. We created unique sidemount system that is able to carry up to 23 kg of weight and keep the streamlined profile when fully inflated.

2016

The traveling by air is changing and the weight restrictions are more and more limited. Therefore FINNSUB ULTRALITE wing set is introduced as the extremely light wing set in technical diving style for sport dives with one tank. Optimal for diving trips to the Red Sea!

2017

After 2 years of development in cooperation with Robert Uhlmann (sidemount-forum.com), Martyn John Farr (explorations in New Zealand) and Daniel Hutnan (explorations in Mexico), we launch the FINNSUB SPELEO - a sidemount system dedicated for cave divers and explorers at the end of the cave line.

2019

Dive light revolution is now coming with our FINNSUB BANG! Easy operation in any depth, easy charging, no risk of flooding, 2 choices of light beam and universal soft handle for all sizes of hands. Original and unique tap control prevents the light of accidental flooding, very small size and weight allow divers to safe the space in the traveling bag and through an accelerometer analyses & identifies whether the lamp is in or out of the water. FINNSUB BANG is the new dive buddy for all sport divers who want the best quality equipment.

Why do what
we do

Since the beginning, our motto is "simpler things work better". We always wanted to provide the best quality products, easy to use, with nice and rough design, reliable for the whole dive time. Because we didn't find such products for technical diving on the market, we decided to produce our own. We are proud that our products are used all over the world since many years with almost 0% of failure.
